Executive CommitteeThe Executive Committee is the steering committee of the organization. They approve agendas and oversee the work of USG as a whole. The committee has set membership of the President, Vice-President, Comptroller, Speaker, Chief Justice (non-voting), Chief of Staff (non-voting), and the Standing Committee Chairs. They advise the Executive branch on operations issues as well.
Executive Committee Chair | Thomas M. Haggerty is the President of the Undergraduate Student Body for 2009-2010. He is a currently a sophomore majoring in Political Science and Economics. He served as the first ever Freshmen Class Senator before becoming Student Affairs Chairperson. Haggerty is a member of the College Democrats and is a frequent volunteer for GUARD Dogs. In his spare time, Haggerty loves reading Batman comic books, watching "The West Wing" on DVD, and playing badminton and basketball. Haggerty hails from Stratford, CT where he graduated from Bunnell High School. |
Executive Committee Vice-Chair | Lia has been involved with the Undergraduate Student Government since her first semester at Storrs. As a freshman and sophomore she served as a multi-cultural and diversity senator, working on the Student Affairs, External Affairs and the Promotion and Recruitment committees. Sophomore year she was appointed as the Communications Director for USG and served as conference coordinator for the Connecticut Conference of Student Governments, held in spring 2008. She was appointed as Chairperson of the Promotion and Recruitment committee in the fall of 2008 and served in that position for the fall of her junior year. As P&R chair Lia, along with the help of her committee, planned the Freshman Ice Cream Social, Student Appreciation Day and designed 13,000 free notebooks for undergraduate students. In the spring of her junior year Lia studied abroad with the Semester at Sea program, visiting 11 countries over the course 108 days. She was elected as Vice-President while abroad and is looking forward to coming home to serve the students in new and greater capacity. Originally from Middlebury CT, Lia enjoys singing, travel, mud volleyball, elephant rides, grape stomping, African drumming, Sara’s pockets and Storrs in the springtime.
